First Woman Editor of Oldest US Bioethics Journal Named: Barbara Golder - Physician, Attorney, Author, Bioethicist

Contact: Barbara Golder, 423-298-7903, golder@cathmed.org

LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Tenn., Jan. 31, 2018 /Christian Newswire/ -- The Catholic Medical Association, (CMA) recently announced the appointment of Barbara Golder, M.D., J.D. as new editor of the Linacre Quarterly. Dr. Golder is the first female editor in the peer-reviewed publication's 86-year history.

She served five years as Treasurer of the Florida Medical Association and Medical-Legal Editor Journal of the Florida Medical Association. In addition to her many accomplishments as a physician and bioethicist, she is also an attorney, served on the National Advisory Council of the US Council of Catholic Bishops, and is the award-winning author of a mystery series featuring bioethical themes (The Lady Doc Murders), the most recent installment of which explored the issue of assisted suicide. She was lead author of an article on the ethics of feeding tube use for the Journal of the National Catholic Bioethics Center. Her interest in the ethics of end of life care dates back more than twenty-five years.

"With rapid changes in medical care and a health care system that is often indifferent, and sometimes hostile, to the concerns of religious caregivers and patients, I see the Linacre Quarterly as an essential voice of reason and dignity, as well as a venue for dialog on the emerging issues of the day. I am honored to be a part of this mission. The country desperately needs a place to discuss the ethics of medical care." said Dr. Golder.

Continuously published since 1934, Linacre Quarterly is the oldest journal dedicated to medical ethics providing a forum in which faith and reason analyze and resolve ethical issues in health care, with a focus in clinical practice and research. Drawing from the rich tradition of Catholic bioethics, the Linacre Quarterly brings a holistic approach to the patient, integrating findings from clinical medicine with psychology, sociology, and faith to make clear bioethical issues and their impact on patients, healthcare workers, and medical systems.

Dr. Golder is known as "The Lady Doc Lawyer," and is available for radio, TV and telephone interviews. Contact her at: golder@cathmed.org or 423-320-1739
