New Wonka Movie Attacks Clergy

NEWS PROVIDED BY

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn., Dec. 15, 2023 /Christian Newswire/ -- Have you seen the recent "Wonka" trailer put out by Warner Brothers? A Priest, portrayed by Rowan Atkinson of Mr. Bean, Black Adder and other projects, enters his Church as a starving child asks for some chocolate. The Priest says he has no chocolate, he then turns around and eats a small bite of the candy without regret or conscience - a Scrooge-type character. Later, the Priest is attacked by an Oompa Loompa. What children will see in "Wonka" is a religious leader "comedically" assaulted. Violence is becoming commonplace towards religious leaders such as the street preacher who was shot in November in Arizona and over 280 attacks on Jews in the USA as of Dec. 3, 2023 since the October 7th attacks by Hamas.

I can guarantee "Wonka" won't become a classic. Sequels never are like the creepy "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" from 2005. Do the creators of "Wonka" honestly think that targeting Clergy/Christians around Christmas will bring big box office? Aren't the creators of "Wonka" telling Christians that they don't need nor want their filthy money by attacking a member of the clergy? Let's give Warners Brothers what they want. Don't see "Wonka." Instead, watch "Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory," a guaranteed classic that doesn't attack your faith and loosely supports scriptural principles.

The 1964 Roald Dahl book, "Charlie and The Chocolate Factory" tells the story of five golden tickets acquired by five lucky children allowing them entry into the mysterious world of Willie Wonka and his chocolate factory. Four of the children were thieves, greedy, gluttonous and disobedient (James 4:3) little monsters. Their behavior brought about ugly consequences (Galatians 6: 7, 8) and their removal from the factory. The fifth child, poverty-stricken Charlie Bucket, was also disobedient by consuming Fizzy Lifting Drinks and stealing candy, the Everlasting Gobstopper, for Wonka's competitor causing Wonka's hurt and anger (Psalm 7:11). Charlie repented (Acts 3:19), giving back to Wonka the candy he'd stolen. This sole act by Charlie Bucket took away Wonka's wrath (Psalm 145:8, Jonah 3:6-10). Charlie and his family were rewarded with the wealthy chocolate factory. Wonka desired to find a child successor whom he could trust to run the chocolate factory once he retired. The reason for the golden tickets and chocolate factory tour.
