WASHINGTON, Jan. 21, 2012 /Christian Newswire/ -- Pro-life organizations will announce "The First State Initiative," a campaign to have America's first abortion free state, on Sunday, January 22, the 39th Memorial of Roe v. Wade in front of the Supreme Court. The news conference will be at 12:00 P.M. noon on the public sidewalk in front of the United States Supreme Court.

Why: To announce a grass roots campaign that will focus on one of the six states in America with just one abortion clinic and the effort to have the first abortion free state. "The First State Initiative" will move away from a federal approach toward ending abortion and focus on a local solution where the pro-life movement has always had its greatest strength.

Rev. Patrick J. Mahoney, Director of the Christian Defense Coalition, based in Washington, D.C., states,

"For 39 years, the principal way the pro-life community has worked to end abortion in America has been to attempt to overturn Roe v. Wade. Although there have been some significant gains made in the Supreme Court and through federal legislation, the tragic taking of innocent life and crushing of human rights continues.

"'The First State Initiative' will move away from the federal approach toward ending abortion and focus on a local solution where our movement has always had its greatest strength.

"By focusing on one of the six states that only has one abortion clinic, we can empower the grass root pro-life movement to end abortion in their state. After we have the first state, we move on to the next. In this way, we can chip away at Roe v. Wade until it longer has any impact."
